Hey guys! I made a list of my top 7 resorts I’ve been riding over the last couple of years. This might give you some ideas for your next trip? Check it out, and make sure to leave a comment. Tell me what YOU think is the best snowboard resort in the world!
Vierli is a tiny tiny resort totally dedicated to snowboarders and Twintip. The resort struggled to attract people to their two small slopes until the owner decided in 2008 to only focus on the terrain park. Since then the park have been perfected with much help from the legendary park shaper Emil Fossheim and Mushroom Production (www.mushroomcrew.com).
The reason I really like this place is because of the compact and intense awesomeness the park provides. I would say this is the resort with most jumps and rails per square meter. To compliment the park, they also have one of the fastest lifts I have ever seen, witch makes it easy to reach up to a hundred runs in a day.
Oh, and did i mention they have a Skateboard/Snowboard Hotel?
Breckenridge | CO, USA
This is paradise for park rats. It is impossible to make a list without Breckenridge. This is the early season training facility for all professional snowboarders. The resort is for everyone with 187 trails for every difficulty level and 34 lifts to take you back up. I myself stayed there for months, and never got to try all of them. My favorite thing about Breckenridge is the fact that they shape and reshape the terrain park more than 4 times a day; witch leaves the conditions perfect throughout the day.
Northstar at Tahoe | CA, USA
Northstar is the pearl northern Tahoe ski resorts in California. There’s a big chance you’ll pass big players as Chas Guldemond and Bode Miller. Much like Breckenridge, the terrain park is made for all levels of riding, and on a powder day, they have an epic three run in the woods. Also, there’s a huge 22-foot Halfpipe designed by Shaun White.
Davos | Switzerland
Home of the famous annual O’Neill Evolution competition where the best upcoming snowboarders gather for the 6 star TTR event. The whole city is based around the resort, which holds the top Swiss snowboard school. During this event the whole city is a big snowboard party.
Livigno | Italy
This place is always sunny, or as far as I know, I yet haven’t seen a cloud every time I’ve been there. The resort is incredible huge, and so is the park. And of course, in the alps, the off-piste possibilities are never ending. This is where TTR kicks off the first World Rookie Fest each year and the park is just as good all year. And may I mention, the whole city is a Tax-Free city. After-ski is a good return on investments
Folgefonna Glasier | Norway
Folgefonna is something special. It is a huge glacier high up in the Norwegian mountains. The resort is only open for a limited time every summer, and is closed all winter due to too much snow! (Up to 7 meters of snow covering the lift completely)
Getting to Folgefonna is something special by it self, as you start from the warm and sunny beach down at the closest town; Jondal, and 30 minutes later you find yourself driving between walls of snow.
Folgefonna has a special vibe to it. The place is completely dead 10 months a year, but for these two months when the resort is open, the place gets packed with skiers and snowboarders from all over the world.
The weather at Folgefonna is always terrible and the snow is almost always slushy, but it never seem to ruin the level of fun people are having on the glacier.
Saas Fee | Switzerland
I’ve spent more time here than any other resort. The resort is open most of the year; with a huge glacier at an altitude of 11000ft that is open from late summer, and 137 trails open during the winter. The glacier is the #1 place to go snowboarding during preseason. Also, the small little town at the bottom of the mountain is a really cool place for skateboarding and the culture is a fine mix of boarders and skiers who can, in fact, live in harmony.
